"Mysorean must know Mysore better"

The story
Father Tabard, the parish priest of St. Patrick's church, served long as the Society's President — and gave it its slogan: 'Mysorean must know Mysore better'. Dr. Morris Travers, the first President, was also the first Director of the Indian Institute of Science; Dr. C.V. Raman, Nobel laureate, was for a long period the Society's Honorary President.
Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar was the Society's patron and presided over its lectures; the Maharaja of Travancore (Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma) and the Maharaja of Baroda (Sayajirao Gaekwad III) were patrons too. Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore visited in 1919 and lectured on Folk Religions in India; Mahatma Gandhi came in 1927 and spoke on the curse of untouchability. Scholars from Sir C.V. Raman and Dr. Brajendranath Seal to R. Shama Shastry and Sir Mirza Ismail were associated with its work.
The Quarterly Journal of the Mythic Society has published without interruption since 1909. The Society's own building — Daly Memorial Hall, named after Resident Hugh Daly and built in 1917 — remains its home on Nrupathunga Road.
ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯವು ಇಂಡಾಲಜಿ, ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ತತ್ವಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ಧರ್ಮ, ಕಲೆ ಮತ್ತು ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪ, ಮಾನವಿಕ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ ವಿಷಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಗೆ ಪೂರಕವಾದ ಆಕರ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನಿಯತಕಾಲಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿನ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನಿಯತಕಾಲಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಡಿಜಿಟೈಜ್ ಮಾಡಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಕಾರ್ಯ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತದೆ.
Patrons included Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and the Maharajas of Travancore and Baroda; Morris Travers was first president; C.V. Raman served as honorary president; Tagore spoke here in 1919 and Gandhi visited in 1927.
